Pour-On Method (Tub Reglazing)

Pour-on method · tub reglazing

Reglazing without the tear-out

Bringing an old tub back doesn’t take demolition or weeks of messy work. If the surface is stained, chipped, or peeling, our pour-on method restores a smooth, even finish — without the cost of replacement. It’s built for New York City apartments, where old, thin spray coatings tend to fail and peel over time.

Quick facts (NYC)

  • Time on site: about 3–4 hours
  • Ready to use: typically in 24 hours
  • Odor: solvent-free — almost no smell, and no overspray
  • Durability: commonly 10–15 years with normal care
  • Best for: cast iron and steel tubs with a worn or damaged finish
How it works

Restore the surface, keep the tub

Most people assume the only way to fix an old bathtub is to tear it out. But in NYC, replacement is usually the most expensive and disruptive option — heavy cast iron, tight hallways, tile damage, plumbing work, building rules, and days or weeks without a usable bath.

Reglazing with the pour-on method restores the surface instead of removing the tub. The material is a thick base and hardener, mixed right before it goes on, that self-levels into one smooth, seamless layer looking clean and like new. If the tub is still solid underneath, this is usually the smartest upgrade you can make.

Why the Pour-On Method Wins — Every Time

Criteria Traditional Spray-On Method OUR METHOD Pour-On Application
Typical lifespan 1-3 years check 10-15 years
On-Site Work Time ~5 hours check 3-4 hours
Coat thickness 10 mils check 60–100 mils (up to 10× thicker)
Odor during work Strong solvent smell, lingers check No solvent smell
VOC content High check Low
Safe to stay home No — residents usually vacate check Yes
Ready to Use ~48 Hours check 24 hours
Long-Term Value Spray-on has a lower up-front cost, but the coating usually needs to be redone every couple of years. A pour-on coat lasts long enough that most clients replace or sell the tub before the finish needs to be redone.

Frequently asked questions

Do you refinish acrylic or fiberglass tubs?

No — we work only on cast iron and steel (porcelain-enamel) bathtubs. The pour-on coating is made to bond to those surfaces. If you’re not sure which kind you have, send us a photo and we’ll tell you.

Do you cover Manhattan and the other boroughs?

Yes. We refinish tubs across all five boroughs — Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island — and in nearby counties (Nassau, Westchester, Hudson, and Union).

Can you provide a certificate of insurance for my co-op or condo building?

Yes. We’re fully licensed and insured, and we can issue a COI naming your building and management company — usually within 24 hours. Just send us the building’s requirements before the job.

Will the bathroom smell, and can we stay home while you work?

The coating is solvent-free, so there’s almost no smell and no harsh fumes — you and your family can stay home while we work. Most jobs take about 3–4 hours and the tub is ready to use the next day.

How long does the finish last?

With normal care, the pour-on finish lasts 10–15 years. Every job is backed by a 5-year written warranty. Because it’s poured on rather than sprayed, the coating goes on thicker and holds up to daily use.

Benefits of the pour-on coating

Why it’s the smarter fix

Seamless, like-new finish

The coating flows into one continuous surface — no patch lines and none of the rough, sandy texture spray leaves behind.

No demolition, no tub removal

The original tub stays in place — no hauling heavy cast iron through the apartment, no torn-out tile, no long downtime.

Repairs chips and peeling properly

Instead of hiding a bad spot, the whole surface is rebuilt — which keeps peeling from spreading and moisture from creeping under weak areas.

Easier to clean

The sealed, non-porous surface resists stains and buildup. Upkeep is a mild cleaner and a soft sponge — nothing harsh.

Saves money vs replacement

Reglazing runs a fraction of a full replacement once you add up plumbing, tile, labor, and building logistics.

Clean process in apartments

Because it’s poured, not sprayed, there’s no overspray drifting onto walls, floors, or fixtures — work stays contained and cleanup is controlled.

The process

How a reglazing job is done

A finish that lasts comes from the prep. Here’s how a job goes, start to finish.

Protect & prep

Surrounding surfaces are covered and protected before any work starts.

Remove the failed finish

Loose enamel, peeling layers, and weak coating are stripped back to a stable base.

Repair chips, cracks & rust

Damaged spots are reinforced, filled, and leveled so the surface is even.

Deep clean & treat

The tub is degreased, cleaned, and dried so the new coating bonds tight.

Pour-on coat

The coating is poured over the whole tub and self-levels into one smooth layer.

Final check & cleanup

We check the finish and leave the bathroom clean — the tub cures and is ready in about 24 hours.
