ABOUT US

About New York Tubs

We refinish bathtubs — and only that

New York Tubs is a small, specialized shop that refinishes bathtubs in NYC apartments and homes. That’s all we do — no tile work, no plumbing, no shower pans. The team has more than a decade in the trade and brought the pour-on method to New York in 2022. We work directly with homeowners, renters, building managers, and co-op boards — and most jobs are done in a single visit: in by morning, finished by early afternoon, ready to use the next day.

What we do

The pour-on method

We refinish bathtubs using the pour-on method. The coating is poured straight onto the surface, where it self-levels into a thick, even film that bonds tight to cast iron and steel.

Most jobs take about three hours, and the tub is ready to use 24 hours later — one visit, no demolition, no plumbing, and no overnight fumes.

Where we draw the line

Bathtubs only

What we do

  • Refinish cast iron and steel tubs
  • Pour-on, self-leveling coating
  • One visit, about three hours
  • Ready to use in 24 hours
  • Backed by a 5-year written warranty

What we don’t

  • Spray — it goes on far thinner (about 6 mils vs our 30–40) and tends to fail in two or three years
  • Acrylic tub inserts — they trap water underneath and have to come out later
  • Sinks, shower pans, or tile refinishing
  • Anything outside the bathtub itself

Why we specialize

One trade, every variation

Most refinishing businesses take any work they can get — tubs, tile, counters, sinks, shower pans. We chose to focus on bathtubs only, and within bathtubs, only on porcelain-on-steel and cast iron.

It means we’ve seen every variation New York has — from prewar cast iron carrying three layers of old refinishing to standard postwar tubs — and we know what works on each one. When something unusual turns up on a job, we’ve usually seen it before.

The finished surface is smooth and uniformly white — close to a new factory enamel. It has a slight micro-texture, so it isn’t as slippery as bare porcelain, and there’s no need for a bath mat.
