New York Tubs is a small specialized service that refinishes bathtubs in NYC apartments and homes. That’s all we do — no tile work, no plumbing, no shower pans. The team has more than a decade of experience in the trade and brought the pour-on method to New York in 2022. We work directly with homeowners, renters, building managers, and co-op boards. Most of our jobs are one-visit projects: in by morning, finished by early afternoon, ready to use the next day.

We refinish bathtubs using the pour-on method. The coating is poured directly onto the surface, where it self-levels into a thick, glossy finish that bonds tightly to porcelain and cast iron. Most jobs take about three hours; the tub is ready for use 24 hours later. The work is done in a single visit, with no demolition, no plumbing, and no overnight fumes.
We don’t spray. Spray-on refinishing is faster and cheaper up front, but the coating is much thinner — typically 6 mils versus the 30–40 mils our pour-on method delivers — and it tends to fail within two or three years.
We also don’t install tub inserts (a thin acrylic shell glued over the existing tub), because they trap water underneath and eventually need to be removed. And we don’t do work outside of bathtubs: no sinks, no shower pans, no tile refinishing.
Most refinishing businesses take any work they can get — tubs, tile, kitchen counters, sinks, shower pans. We chose to focus on bathtubs only — and within bathtubs, only on porcelain-on-steel and cast iron. It means we’ve seen every variation New York has to offer, from prewar cast iron with three layers of previous refinishing to standard postwar tubs, and we know exactly what works on each one. When something unusual comes up on a job, we’ve usually seen it before.
The finished surface is smooth, glossy, and uniformly white — visually indistinguishable from a new factory enamel. It has a slight micro-texture that prevents the slipperiness of bare porcelain without requiring a bath mat.
With proper care, the pour-on finish holds up for 10 to 15 years. We back every job with a 5-year warranty in writing — covering any peeling, chipping, or failure of the coating itself. The materials we use are the same epoxy systems used by industrial coatings manufacturers; they’re not exotic, but they’re chosen for measurable durability rather than marketing.
We provide documentation on request: itemized payment receipt, written warranty, Safety Data Sheets for the coating materials, and Certificate of Insurance for your building. All of this is available within 24 hours of asking.
