Across Union County

From Westfield to Elizabeth

Union County mixes the older single-family homes of Westfield, Summit, Cranford, and Scotch Plains with the denser neighborhoods of Elizabeth, Linden, and Plainfield.

Most still have their original cast iron or porcelain-on-steel tub set into a tiled wall. That tub is worth keeping — refinishing brings the surface back without opening the wall or resetting the plumbing.

Bathtub refinishing in Union County

What refinishing brings back

A worn tub doesn’t need replacing

After decades of use, an old tub chips, rusts at the drain, and the enamel goes rough and stained. The usual fix — tearing it out — turns a tired surface into a full bathroom project: demolition, a plumber, new tile, and days without a working bathroom.

Refinishing skips all of that. We strip the worn enamel, fill the chips, cracks, and rust pits, then pour a fresh coating over the whole tub so it self-levels into a smooth white finish. Because it’s poured rather than sprayed, the coat goes on several times thicker than a spray job and holds up to daily use for 10 to 15 years.

And a tub doesn’t have to be cracked to be worth doing. If yours is just dull, stained, or rough to the touch, the same coating makes it smooth and clean again — at a fraction of what a new tub and the tile work around it would cost.

Replace vs refinish

Why owners refinish instead of replacing

Refinishing keeps your tub in place and costs a fraction of a full replacement.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work on both older cast iron and newer steel tubs?

Yes — both. The older homes in Westfield, Summit, and Plainfield usually have cast iron, while the postwar homes have porcelain-on-steel tubs. Both refinish the same way. We don’t work on plastic or acrylic tubs.

Do you refinish the outside of a clawfoot, or just the inside?

The inside only — that’s the bathing surface, and it comes back to a smooth white finish. The outside and the feet are painted enamel and need a different process, so a painter handles those.

My tub is worn and stained but not cracked — is it worth refinishing?

Definitely. A dull, stained, or rough surface is exactly what the pour-on coating restores — it comes back to a smooth white finish. If a tub is too far gone to save, we’ll tell you up front.

How does the cost compare to a new tub?

Refinishing starts at $435. A replacement — demolition, plumber, new tile, and a week of downtime — usually runs $2,000 or more, so refinishing saves both money and time.

How long does the job take?

One visit of about 3–4 hours. The coating then cures for roughly 24 hours, so the tub is ready the next day. It’s solvent-free, so there’s almost no smell.

How long will the new finish last?

With normal care, 10 to 15 years. The coating is poured on thick and resists peeling and chipping, and every job carries a 5-year written warranty.

Why the Pour-On Method Wins — Every Time

Criteria Traditional Spray-On Method OUR METHOD Pour-On Application
Typical lifespan 1-3 years check 10-15 years
On-Site Work Time ~5 hours check 3-4 hours
Coat thickness 10 mils check 60–100 mils (up to 10× thicker)
Odor during work Strong solvent smell, lingers check No solvent smell
VOC content High check Low
Safe to stay home No — residents usually vacate check Yes
Ready to Use ~48 Hours check 24 hours
Long-Term Value Spray-on has a lower up-front cost, but the coating usually needs to be redone every couple of years. A pour-on coat lasts long enough that most clients replace or sell the tub before the finish needs to be redone.
Single-family or building

Houses and apartment buildings alike

In the houses of Westfield, Summit, and Berkeley Heights, we work around your schedule and leave the bathroom clean — one visit, no crew tracking through the house for days.

For apartment and condo buildings in Elizabeth, Linden, and Plainfield, we provide the certificate of insurance the building office or board needs before work starts, and there’s no demolition or debris to deal with.

How we do it

One visit, three stages

Strip & repair

We remove the worn enamel, smooth the rough spots, and fill chips, cracks, and rust pits flush.

Pour the coating

The coating is poured over the whole tub and self-levels into an even white finish — no brush marks, no bare spots.

Cure overnight

Ready to use in about 24 hours, backed by a 5-year written warranty.

The coating is solvent-free — no harsh fumes and almost no smell — so the bathroom stays usable while we work. We’ve refinished tubs across the New York area since 2013.
